Ingredients:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 stick of butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • A pinch each of: mahlab, cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom
  • 3 cups flour
  • Baladna Date Paste – golden and smooth

Preparation:

  1. Mix the butter, sugar, egg, and spices until creamy.

  2. Gradually add the flour to form a soft, pliable dough.

  3. Spread half of the dough into a baking tray.

  4. Add an even layer of Baladna Date Paste on top.

  5. Roughly grate or crumble the remaining dough over the date layer.

  6. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 15 minutes, or until golden.

Serving:

 

Let it cool slightly, then cut into squares or bars and serve with tea or coffee. A nostalgic treat for all occasions!
